This is exactly how it is supposed to work:

Do an experiment -> get funny results -> verify these results over and over again -> find that the only explanation is to overthrow the current fundamental theories -> publish -> discuss -> find out that things are different from what everyone thought -> postulate new theory that explains all previous findings including the new one.
